Hotel Cadiz

Cadiz has the Atlantic on one side and the Bahia de Cadiz on the other, and a hotel Cadiz style may well have sea views. Positioned on a promontory the old town resides, with the extensive new town stretching along the main beach Playa de la Victoria for several kilometers. With maritime routes due to it’s practically island setting; Cadiz is a very likeable place with the sea seemingly at ever turn.

Getting There
There is no airport for Cadiz, but the international airport at Jerez de la Frontera is not too far away and has good public transport links. Sevilla is also under two hours away by either bus or train. Getting around the old town of Cadiz is easy as it is quite compact, but the new town is stretched along the beach so a taxi may be a preferred method getting around.

A Brief History
Claiming to be Western Europes oldest city it was founded possibly as early as 1100BC. Cadiz, unlike much of Andalucia didn’t seem to play much of a role in the Moorish era. Once the Americas were discovered, Cadiz was and important trade port for the Atlantic. The carnival is famous as quite an event and was even banned during Francos rule, but survives to this day.

Sights of Cadiz
There is a certain charm in just wandering about the narrow streets of the old town. There is a cathedral that is best viewed from the waterfront. Near the cathedral on the waterfront is also a roman theatre. In the northern part of the old town is Plaza de la Mina, a large square which is a great place to grab some tapas. There is a good museum here too, considered on of the best in Andalucia.

Beaches
The biggest and best beach in Cadiz is Playa de la Victoria which is a long strip in the new part of town. The clean sand and water are very inviting.
