Maybe you’ve heard some friends or coworkers talking about their cruise ship wedding and it’s got you thinking. Wouldn’t that be romantic to get married maybe on an exotic beach far from home (and the hassles of wedding planning) or aboard ship out in the middle of the ocean?
There are all kinds of destination wedding packages and wedding cruise packages in particular are in growing demand. Engaged couples are fining out that there are many options available. It is definitely not a one size fits all.
The most basic thing you could do is to plan an all inclusive cruise like anyone would and check into seeing if the cruise ship has an onboard officiant. That’s really all you need to have a wedding. A bride, a groom, an officiate and proper marriage license. Of course, you could see what it would cost to add a few little extras.
Want a small cake or music? What about a tux for the groom? You just have to check with each cruise ship company and the particular ship to see what options they have. It shouldn’t cost a whole lot of extra money over what you pay for the cruise itself. That is unless you keep adding on. What about video or photos? What about a special dinner afterwards? The cost could start to add up, but just think of all the money you are saving by not having the wedding back home.
Now if you think your family will be upset not to share in your wedding ceremony, here’s an idea. See if you can have your wedding in the ship’s chapel before it leaves port. Let your family take part in that and then they would get off the ship before departure and you could be on your way to your private honeymoon cruise.
Other couples are making the cruise and adventure for the entire family and with some friends included. You are talking some money here but maybe dad is helping to foot the bills. After the wedding you may want to tell you family to leave you alone!
As you can see there are a number of options to choose from. What works for one couple may not work for another. You will find that most of the cruise ship companies are flexible and will try to accommodate you however they can. They do have a good bit of experience in helping couples with their weddings onboard or on land and have put together special wedding cruise packages to appeal to everyone’s interest.
